AmCham Welcomes New Members to its Board of Directors Skopje --September 15, 2009

AmCham Macedonia held its 9th Annual General Assembly on September 14th, 2009 at the Holiday Inn Hotel in Skopje. Some 80 members were in attendance to review the Chamber’s operations and activities and elect 3 new members to the AmCham Board of Directors. The following individuals (in alphabetical order) were elected for a two-year term:

Ruzica Filipceva, Managing Partner, Grant Thornton Macedonia
Valerijan Monevski, Attorney at Law, Skopje
Stefan Plavjanski, Territory Sales Manager, Hewlett Packard IT BV Branch Office Skopje

These new members will join the remaining board members (in alphabetical order):

Sonja McGurk, AmCham’s Executive Director gave a report on the Chamber’s operations during the past year. She noted the major events that were conducted in the last 12 months, highlighted some of the aspects of our quarterly magazine and gave notice to our website’s continuously visited contents. Further, Ms. McGurk presented the plans for the remaining of this year going into 2010. Among all the important activities ahead of us, she would like to mention the planned partnering with AmCham Hungary with the goal to feed on AmCham Hungary’s experience as one of the most active and successful chambers in Europe.

Ms. McGurk also noted the past year’s successful repertoire of events included a Conference on Intellectual Property Rights protection organized with AmCham Serbia, Leadership Roundtable discussion with Bert Van Selm, IMF Resident Representative for Macedonia and Mr. Goran Trajkovski, Director of the Public Revenue Office; a Business Forum focused on the Current Financial Crisis and its Effects on Macedonia; a Bilateral B2B Summit with AmCham Kosovo, a Pension Supervision Agency Leadership Meeting; Roundtable on IPR followed by a Training Session by Mr. Tim Trainer, founder of the Global Intellectual Property Strategy Center; a series of Seminars on Media Corporate Governance, an e-Commerce discussion with industry leaders and hosted the traditional US 4th of July picnic together with the US Embassy.

The assembly was followed by a cocktail reception featuring a keynote address delivered by HE Mr. Philip Reeker, U.S. Ambassador to Macedonia and H.E. Mr. Vladimir Pesevski, Deputy Prime Minister of the Macedonian Government.
