IPR Committee Charter
Ongoing committee activities
After hosting a very popular and successful Bilateral Conference with AmCham Serbia on IPR enforcement in the fall of 2008, the committee created a matrix detailing the various bodies competent for IPR issues in the country. The matrix clarifies “who does what” across the various aspects of IPR enforcement in the country including software piracy, digital audio/visual media piracy and trademark infringement.
In the spring of 2009, the committee hosted a Roundtable on Intellectual Property Protection, attended member company representatives, government officials, legal representatives of commercial brands and more. The event was an opportunity for the attendees to learn more about the progress being made on the issue in Macedonia, to re-examine their own understanding of IPR’s role and to learn how to spread the message of its importance. In 2010 the Committee published a Trademark Protection Guide. Both English and Macedonian (special thanks to Elena Trimcevska of Alkaloid, for translating it into Macedonian) versions of the guide are available on our website www.amcham.com.mk, while printed Macedonian version was promoted on a Press-conference as part of the celebrations of the World Intellectual Property Day on 26 April, printed courtesy of Microsoft Macedonia. The committee organized a series of workshops on IPR protection from 12-15 April in Skopje and in Bitola. Trainers from the US Embassy in Sofia, Bulgaria as well as the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs presented to an audience of over 80 judges, prosecutors and customs officials. The aim was to demonstrate examples of comparative practices in IPR protection within Europe and worldwide.
